I grew up in New York, where my father owned a residential construction company and my mother taught kindergarten. After graduating from high school, I attended Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts where I studied environmental education and geology. I obtained a master's degree in geology from University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
After the birth of my son, I owned and managed a nature-based home daycare and children's yoga studio in southern Rhode Island. I have taught elementary and middle school in Rhode Island, New York, and Michigan and continue to be actively engaged in education as a parent in the Ypsilanti Community School District.
I am enthusiastic and passionate about serving my community and am thrilled to have landed in southeastern Michigan. I am a runner, baseball mom, teacher, geologist and house lover.

Shannon's Whipped Cream Tips!
Pour 2 cups heavy whipping cream into a quart-size glass canning jar. Place three clean marbles into the jar with the cream. Put the lid on the jar!
Shake! Shake! Shake!
In my family we pass it around the dinner table. Everyone gets a turn to help make the whipped cream.... but I get to be the taster!
Before the cream thickens too much, add maple syrup or powdered sugar for sweetness.
